The Absence of Behavior

There are two options in life: behave or misbehave. Behaving leads to a life tidied by unnecessary apologies and well-worded dreams. It is here that we find nothing but what was already expected. It is, however, in the absence of behavior that we discover what we've always been searching for - ourselves.

What do you mean? you say. Why, the very reason I write this is because I've stayed up 3 hours past my bedtime to watch movies. After finally hitting the switch and walking upstairs to bed, just as I began to brush my teeth, these words appeared in my mind: "There are two options in life: behave or misbehave." And here we are.

I will be tired in the morning, and more than likely not do the things I had planned. But had I followed the rules and gone to sleep at the right time these words would not exist. Instead, not only are they here for us to read and remember, but I've discovered that 2am may be a sweet spot in my writing process.

The absence of behaving is not the same as the absence of manners. I am not granting permission to be rude or unkind. The only permission I grant is the one to get up from your seat and look outside, find something that catches your eye, and follow it. Be mindful, but be adventurous. There are parts of us outside of "acceptable" that we will never know if we do not differentiate between truth and opinion. Truth sets us free. Opinions keep us seated.

I believe we were born to be incredibly unique. There are purposes and passions that may lay on the same canvas but paint differently based on the stroke. You have the power to decide which way you will move, but to fully realize the beauty only you offer you must ask truth for directions.

Don't be surprised, however, if you find yourself in the absence of behavior.
