For the Tomorrow I'll Never Know

We will not see the full impact of our lives – our words, actions, relationships or decisions. We will never fully know anything we’ve done; we can only know what we can see, hear, and perceive in this moment. But what if we saw every act was one of prophecy?

Doing laundry, giving rides, buying breakfast, answering the same question...again, forgiving, offering grace and understanding even when we’re hurt, pouring out kindness in the midst of discomfort, etc. It may seem like we have spent a lifetime on an inch of change, but an inch can redetermine the direction of an entire generation.

Every time we act, someone watches, learning what is acceptable. We hold the power to show someone a brand new hopeful way of living or we can darken their understanding into believing everything is as it is so put up your fists and protect yourself because no one fights for you.

In recognizing this choice - let our own forgiveness prophecy of a future where love is chosen over hate; let our own humility prophecy of a society led by givers and not by takers; let our own every day words prophecy of relationships driven by grace and seasoned exchanges; and let our own determination mark a generation determined to prophecy more and better for the next.

“We are prophets of a future not our own.” – Bishop Ken Untemer
