There is a voice inside of us that needs expression. We prefer to shrink back and claim the choir does not need us as there are enough people singing, but since when has anyone looked up at the sky and wished there were less stars?
We must believe our purpose is worth the exposure and pain of achieving it. If not, we will forego our purpose to protect ourselves, ultimately denying everyone in the room a beauty only we can release.
Purpose is always an answer to a problem. If we were all made on purpose and for a purpose, then doing anything to hold us back from discovering our purpose damages the world as much as it protects us. We are powerful. But we must recognize and own our fears lest we sacrifice purpose for protection’s sake.
We each have memories of moments in time where, had people put down their bricks rather than building them up in self-preservation, today’s canvas might include colors we are still journeying to discover. Rather than repeat history, let us choose to be a people who turn those moments of missed opportunity into life-changing exchanges.
To do this, we must stop hiding behind insignificance. How many people are hurting and broken because we have decided not to sing? Give to someone else what you wish you would have been given and watch everyone in the room heal.
